I have the honour to confirm my telegram of the

29th. May, 1915, which decoded was as follows:-

Go24793 Your telegram 28th. May Jebsen. No evidence of Jebsen

and Company Hongkong receiving any direct amount of

subsidy statesided it is however curious that they

received twenty per cent commission on the sale of dyes

for the Badische Fabrik while their business connected

with Export and Piecegoods import seems to have been

carried on at a loss. They defrayed expenses out of the

twenty per cent on dyes. It is to be imagined that any

direct amount of subsidy would be paid to head office

in Germany and would not appear as such in the books of

the Hongkong Branch.

2. The books of Messrs. Jebsen and Company show

no evidence of any direct subsidy, and nothing has been discovered

tending to show that one was paid. There are, however, two curious

facts in connection with this firm. One is that their piecegoods

and export business seem to have been regularly conducted at a loss, and the other is that they received a commission of no less than twenty per cent on the sale of dyes for the Badische Fabrik, ten per cent being retained by themselves and the other ten per cent going to the compradore &c. It is true that they spent a good
